Kickstart into Kathak (Indian Classical Dance)

What You'll Do

Kickstart into Kathak, and discover an amazing Indian classical dance, and get a taste of its traditions!

WHAT WE WILL DO

Through this workshop, I will introduce you to the unique world of Indian Classical Dance, the rudiments of the dance form, and the novelties of its rich, ancient traditions. You will learn the techniques of the core aspects of Kathak, including footwork, "hastak" (hand movements), and "chakkar" (pirouettes). Kathak is a physically invigorating form which engages the core muscles. Towards the end of the session, we will discuss more intermediate/advanced topics concerning the basic movements learned during the session. These topics include the dissection of torso/wrist movements, further polishing the movements learned, and giving participants techniques and exercises they can take home with them and implement in their daily lives for both fitness and better posture/poise.

Overall, during the session, participants can experience a full hour in the life of a classical Kathak dancer.
